The Association of Independent Architectural Photographers (AIAP) is a trade organization for, well, architectural photographers.  It is primarily a vehicle to promote the success of photographers as well as connecting architectural photography buyers with those who create the images.  It is an international association with hundreds of talented and established photographers represented across North America, Europe and Asia.

Most recently one of my images was selected to represent the entire membership on the AIAP website along with a handful of images from other photographers.  When you consider the number of extremely talented photographers out there, it’s truly an honor to be among the few chosen to represent the association.

Every so often I like to update the ‘Recent Work’ gallery on my website with images from, well, my most recent work.  It seemed to me like the last update I had was a couple months ago… until I happened to actually check.  March 2011 !  Man, that’s way too long to go between updates.  So culling through hundreds of images to see which ones are going to make the cut suddenly became a big priority.

You may have seen some of these from past blog posts, or from my Facebook/Linkedin ‘Photo of the Day’ posts, and some you haven’t.  But in any case, these represent some of my favorites from the last 6 months, now all in one place.  I also like to take this opportunity to look at the OLD ‘recent work’ images and figure out which ones are worthy of a permanent spot in the regular portfolio.  So if you’ve been paying attention all along, you’ll see which ones got promoted.

Florida Power & Light recently took possession of the their brand new General Office and Command Center in Riviera Beach, Florida.  This facility is purposed-designed so that in an event of a storm or other major event, FP&L can have a central command center where they can immediately begin monitoring outages, coordinating restoration of service and addressing the media in the most effective and efficient manner possible. 

This building was  constructed by Royal Concrete Concepts, a major commercial contractor specializing in the educational, commercial, and military sectors.  Using innovative materials and techniques, the FP&L Command Center  can withstand a Category 5 hurricane and be self-sufficient in the midst of a power crisis.  RCC contracted me to provide them some quality images that they’ll be able to use in their new marketing campaign, along with case studies and presentations to potential clients.  This is the first of several commercial and educational facilities we’ll be shooting over the upcoming weeks.  So stay tuned!

I recently completed a big project for RTG Construction, a prestigious, residential builder in Delray Beach.  Owner Jeff Wooster wanted to completely revamp his website and marketing collateral, highlighting several of his most recently completed homes.  So we spent a few days at 3 different locations working to make these homes look their very best.  And trust me, this was not difficult to do whatsoever.  RTG homes, which are designed by Rich Jones at Richard Jones Architecture, boast some of the cleanest designs and most impressive workmanship I have ever seen.  Loaded with high-end finishes, these homes practically photograph themselves.

Alright, alright… that was a little cliche, I admit.  But the fact of the matter is that I had a blast shooting these homes and working with Jeff, Mindy, and Jean.  RTG has several other homes that are in various stages of construction, so we’re already looking ahead to shoot those as well.  Since I know the kind of work RTG puts out, I’m already excited.

We ended up with a ton of great shots, but here are some of my favs from each location.  Don’t hesitate to leave a comment.  I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions.

Actually, Leggiadro is not an interior design firm at all.  It is a high end women’s clothing boutique that has stores in some of the most elite locations across the county, including New York, Nantucket, and Palm Beach.  So it’s not a surprise that it’s owners, Ann and Brooks Ross, would have the ability and vision to design a room with the same skill and creativity they use in their fashion designs.

Ann & Brooks completely renovated and designed their 1925 Florida home in the historic El Cid neighborhood of West Palm Beach and wanted to have their work documented for posterity.  So they called me…

The blog posts around here have slowed down a little bit, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. I do have some great projects in the can and will be posting some images and info here soon. But in the meantime, I’ve been posting an image (just about) every day over at Facebook. I could post the ‘Photo of the Day’ here, but I like to put in a little more effort and content into my blog posts.  Facebook is perfect for a quick and easy, drive-by update.

So why not click on that Facebook icon up there and become a fan?  That way you can be sure to not miss the (mostly) daily new photo.  And of course, keep subscribed to my feed here so you can see some great projects that I promise I’ll be posting soon!

I’m so far behind on bringing you up to date with all of my recent projects there may not be anyway for me to ever catch up.  But it will be fun trying!  Hey, you have to admit, I have been doing better about maintaining SOME sort of regularity with the blog. 

Which leads me to this:  Every 3 months or so, I like to rotate a new set of images into my ‘Recent Work’ portfolio on my website, which just happens to be perfect blog fodder.  Some of the old ‘Recent Work’ images have been ‘promoted’ into the regular portfolio lineup and the new stuff comes in to fill its place.  Maybe as time goes on, some of these new images will eat their vegetables, work hard to grow up big and strong and someday be able to make it to the real portfolio.  Just maybe…

Anyway, all these new images have been shot within the last 3 months and represent work from a variety of clients, including builders, interior designers, architects, magazines, product manufacturers, and luxury real estate professionals.  It is my full intent to share some of  the details of these gigs with you on a one by one basis with additional info and lots of flowery language in the near future.  But for now, the highlights of these projects are in the completely updated ‘Recent Work’ gallery which you can get to by clicking HERE.

Clopay Building Products manufactures premium garage and entry doors for both the commercial and residential market.  They’ve been looking to update their portfolio of marketing images specifically in the Florida market for their Florida dealers.  So they called me to provide them just that.  They already have premium imagery on their site and in their marketing materials, so I knew the shots they would require are not going to be the run-of-the-mill garage door picture.  In our pre-shoot conversations, they mentioned ‘dramatic’ on more than one occasion. 

Ok.  You want dramtic?  I can do dramtatic… 

These images are from the first of many forthcoming shoots around Florida I’ll be doing in the near future.

I was recently contacted by James Hardie Building Products to showcase their products on KB Homes 2011 Concept home which was designed in partnership with Martha Stewart.  This home is both unique and revolutionary in that it is a ‘Net Zero’ home.  That means this home actually produces more electricity than it uses.  The home was featured in conjunction with the International Builder Show and Builder Magazine.  James Hardie supplied all of the siding and exterior trim for this project and was eager to show off their ‘HardiPlank’ in new marketing collateral.  So I spent a day photographing all of the exterior details with beautiful Central Florida weather providing a great backdrop.  Look for these images in James Hardie’s new brochures and website.

Here are a few of my favorites from the day:

I recently completed a great project for the fine folks at Green Builder Magazine.  We photographed the two recently-completed show homes which were on display in conjunction with  the International Builder Show in Orlando.  Both the VISION House (a brand new home) and the ReVISION House (a complete remodel of an existing home), utilize state-of-the-art sustainable design and construction, with a focus on energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor air quality, sustainable materials, and disaster resistance.  Both homes were designed and built in a partnership with Southern Traditions Development and Designs by Pat Gaylor.  VISION House was designed by Ed Binkley Design, and the ReVISION design was by Ray Rocha/Catalyst Design, LLC.

Occasionally, we had to get a little creative since everyone was on a tight deadline and several areas of construction were just a teeny tiny bit behind schedule… 

Fortunately, the camera only photographs what it’s pointed at…

Despite the occasional bit of chaos over the 4 days we were shooting, we ended up with some excellent images that we all felt especially captured the feel and style of these homes. Look for the feature article in the soon-to-be-released March issue of Green Builder Magazine, which is available at all Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores across the country.  Or check it out electronically at the Green Builder Magazine website.
